I am new to Suse, and I need to find a way to update my machine without
using the YAST online update. My machine does not have internet access so I was planing on downloading the updates on another box and burning them to CD. I am used to working with Solaris where I can download the 8_Recommended package and it runs and just updates those packages that I have installed. Is there something similar with Suse? I can't find it. |

laroche,
with 10.1 it is pretty easy: Add a local directory to the Zen updater (right click the icon, "Configure"...) and copy the RPMs into this folder. The updater will pick them up there. Supported protocols: http, ftp, smb, nfs, cd, dvd, file. If no protocol is given, a local file is assumed. Examples: 'ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse', 'cd:///', 'file:/var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt' '/var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt' /birger |

Uwe and birger,
thanks for the advice, that helps alot. But I still have one problem. Where do I go get all of the RPMs in one big tar ball or something similar? > Uwe Buckesfeld wrote: > > laroche, > > > > with 10.1 it is pretty easy: Add a local directory to the Zen updater (right click the icon, "Configure"...) and copy the RPMs into this folder. You'll have to download either selected RPMs or mirror the update directory or something like that.
