The problem: rug will not let me add things like "packman". I am also
unable to add it through the notification icon (formerly the suse watcher). I get the following error: # rpm --import http://packman.unixheads.com/public-keys.asc # rug sa --type=zypp http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.1/ packman Adding zypp service... ERROR: Could not add 'http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.1/': Failed to parse XML metadata: Unsigned file '/repodata/repomd.xml (http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.1/)' I've got several entries in my installation sources, but none of them are getting "replicated" to the updater as far as I can tell. I've been following the instructions from "waxborg.servepics.com". I have used yast online_update to update everything, but still no go. Would really appreciate some help on how to proceed to getting this working. Here is my rug version. # rpm -qa | grep rug rug-7.1.1.0-18.9 Thanks, Randy Smith |

Currently adding of unsigned repositories via rug is not working, since rug has not the necessary callbacks. Use "rug set-prefs security-level checksum" for adding them, or use YAST. -- Justin Grote Novell Support Connection Sysop Network Architect JWG Networks |

I'm using Yast and added a new installation source that is a valid mirror. After quite some time I get the error: Your service was added successfully in YaST, but could not be synchronized with ZenWorks.... Failed to parse XML metadata: database disk image is malformed. Doing lots of searches, it seems folks are uninstalling Rug and Zenworks and using something else altogether. I'd just like to use Yast. Can one uninstall Rug and Zenworks and still have a quality functioning SuSE distribution? Can Yast be used to do the uninstall, or should native RPM commands be issued? Anyone try this with success? Is there a way to limit the search to Novell forums? Thank you. PR |

Yes, you can uninstall rug and zmd and the system will function just fine, although there is no reason to (just turning off ZMD will be as effective). I would recommend using Smart rather than going it alone with YaST, as YaST and rug use a lot of common libraries and many of the problems you experience on one will probably show up on another. -- Justin Grote Novell Support Connection Sysop Network Architect JWG Networks |
