First off, let me say I am new to suse, but not new to Linux. Installed suse
on the recommendation of a friend as I wanted something 'easy' for my home desktop. Downloaded DVD and installed opensuse (amd64). wonderful installer, all very positive. Needed to install kernel-source so I could get my nvidia card working properly and hit a wall. Turns out opensuse 10.1 ships with a broken package manager (it simply doesn't actually do anything), the update tool that lives in the kde tray also fails to play spewing out pop-ups with unhelpful error messages. I ask on #suse and have to suffer a torrent of abuse to find out the above and that the solution is to install a 3rd party package manager, all because I dared to suggest it was broken out of the box, which for me, it plainly was. My question's Where on the opensuse wiki is this information? Why is there not something on the download page "As soon as you've installed - read this" Why is it down a user to provide the solution on their own website? http://spinink.net/2006/05/20/instal...ckage-manager/ Nin |

We are not directly affiliated to the project. As for the updater: You can run a Yast Online Update, which will install a fix for the zen updater. In my experience it behaves after this upgrade, but is still miles away from being an improvement over Yast.
