Default Installation Source

Hi All,

SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586) OSS
VERSION = 10.0

If you open Yast Control Center, then click installation source, then click
"add" and select "HTTP" or "FTP" what do you put in the "Server Name" and
"Directory On Server" fields? I'm sure it's some mirror server or
something, but can find nothing to piont me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Joe

Correct. For instance, here's a US mirror for OpenSuSE:

http://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/d...rce/suse/i586/

so you would put mirrors.kernel.org in the server name field, then
opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source/suse/i586/ in the
Directory on Server field. Now when you install packages you will
install directly from the mirror, no CD swapping required.

Hi Again,

Well it's actuly trying to connect now, I think I was adding the http to
the server line which made it error out right away.

But, still getting an error, here is what the dialog box looks like:
================================================== ==================
Unable to create installation source from
http://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/d...rce/suse/i586/
Detail:
Error ( InstSrc:E_no_instscr_on_media)
Try Again?

Yes No

First of all: Don't top post! It's not supported.

Secondly:
Server name: http://mirrors.kernel.org
Directory: opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source

Whoopsie, he's right, I accidentally included the full path to the RPMs,
that was a cut and paste from a previous post on a different subject.
Vathis's should work, although you may have to leave off the http:// part.

Hi All,

If you put:
Server Name: http://mirrors.kernel.org
Directory: opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source

It will error out immediately and give that error I posted above, but if
you just put mirrors.kernel.org in the Server Name block it will at least
act like it's trying to connect, but after 10 seconds will give the same
error dialog box.

Now when I run "Online Update" in the Yast Control Panel that works fine.
If you look at the link for the Updates
you have http://suse.cs.utah.edu/suse/ then click edit it brings up the
same kinda dialog box with

Server Name suse.cs.utah.edu
Server Directory suse/

Any Ideas Welcome!

Thanks,

Joe

Hi
Try the installation_sources command e.g.
oscar:~ # installation_sources -a
ftp://suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/suse/....0/yast-source
Added Installation Sources:
[x] supplementary KDE 3.5 update
(ftp://suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/suse/....0/yast-source)

Well I downloaded the OpenSuse 10.1 ISO and did a upgrade from 10.0 to
10.1. Now I'm back to the problem at hand.

My system reports "no such command" for installation_sources -a

I'm looking at the link:

http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse...1/inst-source/

It starts with http://ftp.opensuse.org
( That seems wierd, http://ftp compared to this link:
http://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/d...SS/inst-source)

Anyway,
So select "http" server type.
Server Name ftp.opensuse.org
Directory pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/

This seems to work, OK, WOW that was easy, NOT.

Thanks for all the help!

Joe

Did it work the first time? If so, subsequent efforts probably need you to
select "Edit/Refresh" from the Installation Source panel.
