(hope this posts before machine hangs again)
system keeps hanging and having many many kernel oopses after update to 2.6.11.4-21.10. I have tried to insert the oops details here but this thing keeps hanging before I can do it. Anyone else having problem? |

The standard kernel works just fine for a lot of us. I think you are having some piece of hardware fail. I would recommend running a long memory test to make sure you are not having RAM problems. If you have a friend with a network connection, you can download MEMTEST86 and make a bootable floppy. If no floppy drive, there is also a downloadable ISO image for writing to a CD. I always keep a copy in /boot that I can load from grub. Larry |

Appears that some usb functions were changed in the kernel, but not the drivers. massively unstable. Only change is kernel update from -21.9. I think someone broke the kernel. All these problems with distros--maybe I go back to using 0.99. More stable than 2.6. |

Yes, I had no idea what was happening. I reinstalled like 3 times before I finally narrowed it down to the kernel update. How can I remove the kernel update and roll-back to the good version? |

Use original media and tell YaST Software Management to "update" kernel package. That will install original kernel version. I use 2.6.11.4-21.9-default. Which version is making problems smp, x_64? -- Regards, Rajko. |

The benefit of Linux is that you can install components that cover just your hardware and software needs. That will make computer faster and lesser prone to errors. The bad about ability to configure system is that there is a lot of reading and learning involved if one wants to manage his computer alone, and that is the same with linux or windows. Have a fun, and happy 2006. -- Regards, Rajko M. |
