Is there an official suse update policy around?
I'm confused on when packages get updated. I am using 9.2 and the latest version of Apache2 is at 2.0.50 vs 2.0.55 and PHP4 is at 4.3.8 vs the latest ar 4.4.1. Both have security fixes I would like to have. I can download and compile all of this manually, but the convienence of precompiled packages is nice. Should I not expect to see current builds of various software for suse and build anything critical myself instead of using yast and you? Thanks. -- Ian Smith www.ian.org <-- Email is here. |

Hi Ian, You may want to look at this link: http://support.novell.com/lifecycle/...port_lifecycle and this is the link from previous page: http://support.novell.com/lifecycle/...resupport.html The practical orientation would be to look in following SUSE releases (9.3 and 10.0) to see what versions are supported there. Somewhere I read that collection of packages called release doesn't change much to ensure stability. -- Regards, Rajko. |

Packman and Guru also carry newer versions of some packages. Mark |

Ahh, that is what I was wondering. So a package like Apache will be put into a release at a specific version, and that version number will not change. But security fixes are backported into it. (For some packages.) Thanks a lot! -- Ian Smith www.ian.org <-- Go here for email address. |
