I have a number of Yast repostories. On one of them I can clearly see,
when going to their repostory, a particularly update. This is in the packman repository at http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/9.3/ , The particular rpm is libcdio-0.76-0.pm.0.i586.rpm. Yet in Yast's Install and Remove Software, it shows that I have installed version 0.72-3.1 and that version 0.75.0 is available. Of course when I go to update libcdio it says it can not find version 0.75.0, which is correct because it is not there but version 0.76.0 clearly is there and Yast does nto see it. Is Yast just a broken piece of software as far as the Install and Remove software is concerned ? That would be serious. I have used both apt ( Synaptic ) and yum ( Yumex ) before and both were pretty solid. Yast's software modules seem primitive by comparison yet I felt I should give it a try. But if it does not work I clearly need something that does. An application which installs, updates, and deletes software is too critical to have such bugs. If someone can tell me what is wrong with it I would be glad to hear about it. Thanks ! |

Try moving packman to the very top of the install sources. Uwe -- Novell Support Connection Volunteer SysOp Please don't send me support related e-mail unless I ask you to do so. |

Well there are version of apt, yum and red carpet, yum and RC are a little experimental but apt works perfect on Suse, I use it instead of Yast for software due to the fact that there are more apps for my systems config. Rc and Yum do not have any repositories for the 64bit SuSE10 ( well none last time I looked ) http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ HTH -- Mark Twixt hill and high water N. OK, but why should this matter ? Should not Yast be finding, for a particular rpm, the latest version from all possible install sources and presenting that as the version to which to upgrade ? |

Yes, but I noticed that sometimes it makes a difference. With older versions of SuSE that is, so far the order appears to not play a role in SuSE 10. Someone else mentioned to "refresh the sources", but I do not see where this is done and assumed this is done automatically. I will try contacting the administrator at packman to see if the problem is not on their end. Yast still shows libcdio version in their repository as 0.75 while one can easily see it is 0.76. I have no idea why. |

In the "Installation Source" dialog in Yast, highlight the installation source, click "Edit", then "Refresh". For 9.3 that is in 10.0 it will be more obvious. > I will try contacting the administrator at packman to see if the > problem is not on their end. Try a different mirror, maybe. ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/misc/packman/ plus the subdirectory for your version. You need to refresh the install medium every time especially if it is an added source, exactly the same as apt does, go to the change source in yast and there you will be able to refresh the list. First turn off any sources that you do not want and move the one you want to the top, then in the edit drop down you should be able to "refresh" > I looked at this before and I found the instructions less than > adequate. You d.load and install the needed rpms and edit the ftp/http source file or grab one of the current ones for your version off the site, that is it. HTH -- Mark Twixt hill and high water N. Do you mean to say that each time I use Yast's "Install and Remove Software" I must go through each Software Source and manually refresh it in order to pick up the latest changes ? That is not my idea of user-friendly software if that is the case. Under Synaptic-apt it automatically checks within a time period or one can tell it to check by clicking a single button if the time period has not expired. > >>I will try contacting the administrator at packman to see if the >>problem is not on their end.
