One idea for kaffeine (not sure it will work) to use gstreamer.

Have you setup your software repositories repositories with ONLY OSS, Non-OSS, Update and Packman? Repositories/11.1 - openSUSE-Community If not I recommend you do so. Just those 4. And then once those 4 and only those 4 are in place (to ensure no inappropriate app is picked up from another repos) update all your gstreamer apps and kaffeine version to the packman packaged versions. You can tell the packman packaged versions by the "pm" in the version number.

Then check under settings "player engine" to see if gstreamers is offered.

Note I use the xine engine for kaffeine and it can play mp3.

Edit - don't forget to install "kaffeine-gstreamer" from packman.
