Hi again,
If the reading of a hd stored file is possible, the reading of an audio cd is still impossible, with MPlayer either.
"impossible to find the drive /dev/sr1"
I have 3 cd/dvd drive in my machine, same problem with every of them
Another good idea please ?
Many thanks in advance

Hello Uwe,
As soon as I insert a cd in the drive, the error message appears.
Then, of course, any player cant read the drive/cd.
Thank you

The basic, as packaged, openSUSE-11.1 had a bug for CD/DVD access, where a work around was to add users to group "disk" and "cdrom" groups (this can be done via YaST - post if you can not figure out how). Then restart the pc and try again. If you have openSUSE-11.1 you could try that.

Ok

.. with respect to working around the bug (in 11.1) that impacts the ability with respect to CDs/DVDs by adding your users to group "cdrom" and group "disk".

You can do this under:
YaST > Security and Users > User and Group Management, select your user, press "edit" , click on "details" tab, click on the appropriate "additional group" (ie "cdrom" and "disk" ) and press OK. ...

Then you must restart afterward.

If that does not help, just undo the above permissions change.

Dear Oldcpu,
Yess !
Once I did this, the cd is directly shown on the desktop.
But my problem with the sound is remaining.
Second the advices of Uwe, I installed mplayer and w32 codecs from packmann repository. Mplayer is able to read correctly audio but no CD.Should I re-install my players after having modify my profile ?
VLC/xine/banshee can play cd but the sound is not ok (interrupted)

I am lost, no suitable and reliable solution for multimedia.
I read as well one of your answer You gave about multimedia and repository packages and configured my system so (except amarok because amarok is available for KDE and I have gnome) but the problem remained.
Thank you in advance
