Default Media plugin problem

I few days ago I installed some plugins (I can't remember which exactly) for the media players I have installed, including fluendo.

I now have a flashing red lattice across the screen when ever I play a video file. It doesn't matter which player I use, VLC, Kaffeine, xine, smplayer, kmplayer, etc. The red lattice flashes a couple of times a second. Audio is fine but the video experience is gone.

Does any one have an idea which plugin could be causing this or am I going to have to remove most if not all of them.

Thanks.

Try turning off desktop effects, in the past with older versions of compiz I had a simular issue to this.
Never know.
But it could easily be one of the gstreamer plugins, as I had issues similar to yours in the past with them as well.

I haven't fooled around with desktop effects, but I did install some gstreamer plugins. I'll try to delete them and see what happens.

I deleted the gstreamer plugins and nothing changed. I still have the flashing red lattice.

That would leave the desktop effects.

What would you suggest I change them to?

Please change repo #11 (VLC) to OFF/Disabled

On a side note, if you are running kde42' you will find setting your update repo to 99 makes for less trouble with dependencies.

Back to topic:
Now open Yast Software Management
Filter by Repo and select Packman
From the 'Packages' menu along the top - select Update all in this list Unconditionally
If conflicts arise, choose the change Vendor option
accept

EDIT:
Repo #5 also OFF/Disable

Default Re: Media plugin problem

I am carrying out the instructions. I did have to chose the Change Vendor option. There were, however, three errors which didn't offer me that option. Each error gave me only the option to delete one of 2 or three files. I chose the first file for each since I couldn't tell what they would be used for.

Your side note mentioned "if you are running kde42' you will find setting your update repo to 99 makes for less trouble with dependencies."

How/were exactly do I make this change?

Sorry, I'm going to have to carry with this later tomorrow. I have a very early start.

Thanks for your help so far. I will let you know what the outcome is.

Good night.
