Reading your post, I was left with the specific impression you were running X as user root. |

I had a user on IRC#suse complain that VLC would not provide auio for files with an AC3 codec. ... Their openSUSE was 64-bit and they tried both videolan and packman packaged VLC versions. I have no problems with my 32-bit Packman packager packaged vlc. I'm wondering if the 64-bit builds of VLC could have packaging problems? or maybe even problems with the 64-bit implementation of VLC? PLEASE can we get some 64-bit PC users test their VLC and see how it works with vob and other files that have audio a52/ac3 codecs? If so, then we need to report this to the Packman (and maybe also videolan) packagers. |

Ok, I have some good news on the no sound for VOB files in VLC on x64 versions.
I've been trying ages and just can't get sound on VLC, so I looked round on the net at sites and one site said to install MPlayer and KMplayer. So I brought up software manager and it had them in the packman repository, installed them and I now have sound with MPlayer. I have KMPlayer for my Windows system so I knew it and trust it, but there's still the issue with VLC. MPlayer is just a temp fix, as I prefer VLC so like oldcpu said maybe there's errors in the source code of VLC and needs to be fixed.

Before I forget to ask, do you have liba52dec0 installed from Packman?
PackMan :: a52dec I don't know if vlc uses it, but I have it installed. |
