I noted the following: Quote:
sontek ( John M. Anderson ) » Achieve Zen with openSUSE 11.0 (i.e Get rid of pulse audio) which is to remove alsa-plugins-pulse. If that is insufficient, you could remove all pulse audio applications. Just make a note of what you remove, so you can install them again later, if need be. Pulse audio is new in openSUSE-11.0, and hence new to many of us (including myself) and we are still trying to learn its implications/techniques. After removing pulse audio, you will possibly have to restart alsa, or possibly even reboot, to get the full effect. |

with options "snd-hda-intel=acer", it works quite well. There is a little problem of image that doesn't fill the screen in full screen mode. But I managed it involuntary, by doing a snapshot.
![]() Nevertheless, the quality is below than in windows... there're a lot of big pixels. The image is less smooth. And with "auto" instead of "acer", it's jerky. I had already removed alsa-plugins-pulse, without obvious enhancement. |

Well most of the times does not means a lot. I have a 945 working now but i had troubles with video players until i modified my xorg.conf file and now it works even with 3d effects enabled. You have also an intel card . When you play a file, running from a terminal and the video is not properly working what are the messages? Maybe " bad alloc error:insufficient resources"?

And you know what? Foobar works now

OK, great. So your sound is sorted now, correct?
And now its a matter of fine tuning your Video. I confess with all the suggestions, and input, it is not clear to me where you stand with the video. 1st, when you say "windows", what are you comparing it to? WinXP ? Vista? 2nd, I also assume you are using some custom codec pac in windows, 'cause my wife never could (and I don't give her much windows support, since I don't know windows) never get video working well in WinXP. 3rd, what is the state of your openSUSE video hardware/graphics/desktop setup? What hardware? what driver in your xorg? Are you trying this with special desktop affects installed? Installed but disabled? Installed but enabled? Gnome? KDE-4? KDE-3.5.9? I noted you have changed your configuration many times, and I don't know where you stand now. I have compared my video graphics (running on very old hardware) with windows PCs running WinXP and Vista running on newer hardware, and those Windoze OS on the new hardware can not compete with what I have setup in openSUSE Linux. BUT I also concede the owners of the new hardware (with windows OS) are not Windows/multimedia guru's, but rather just average Windows users. According to the rpm query I had you do, that is not the case. The rpm query output CLEARLY shows alsa-plugins-pulse installed on your PC! |

Some things:
- "options snd-hda-intel=auto"? From /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt there exists a "model" option for the snd-hda-intel module. But in any case, would not be "options snd-hda-intel model=auto"?? Anyway, "auto" is already the default value of the model option. - "esd audio output error" indicates you are using EsounD output plug-in in VLC. When we say you to remove "alsa-plugins-pulse" is to use the ALSA output in VLC. - "I can't find vlc-plugin-pulse with the software manager, in the packman reposery". Yes, that's normal. That's why I said "ask Packman to package", that's it... Packman could *create a package* if you ask them. - "there're a lot of big pixels" can be explained if your are using X11 without XVideo extension ("X11" output instead of "Xv"). Have you changed the video output in VLC options??? |

Desktop: Gnome, with or without desktop effects, it doesn't change anything in the quality (is it that you call 3D desktop?) But they're installed, for sure! Quote:
And, regarding "what driver in your xorg? " I'll tell you when I know who is that guy! Some relative of Zorg?

Quote:
grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf and that will give you the identity of the "guy".
