Default Wine... (SuSE 10.3)

Moi kaikki,

I have installed wine, latest version (1.1.20 via a suse rpm).

I try to load some games but nothing works, nothing. The oldest is a game that used to run on win95/98 - that one seg faults. The newer ones are supposed to be for the XP and above.

All the games install ok (I use wine to run the Autorun or setup progs) but the problems arise whem I try to run the game.

The newer ones all fail with what appears to be the same problem. The start-up menu is displayed, the music plays, the video is playing etc.

However, when I select anything from the menu, it all immediately freezes up, no sound, no moving parts, no response at all all from even the wine window.

I have opened a query on winehq but since there are multi-layers here (wine on top of SuSE), I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on where to look for clues.

Is the problem with X, my hardware, software?

I have an ATI 9800 (R350H) which is running OK (despite sax) with DRI 3D (BTW is fgl_glxgears only for ATI cards?). My /var/log/Xorg.log looks good too, no errors or anything. My ~/.xsession.errors shows messages from sabayon (what? I thought that was a distro) and a couple from gnome (I use KDE3).

There are a few "bad window" as well but, somehow, I don't think they are linked to wine since there are so few compared to the number of times I've been banging my head against the winewall.

The box has amd 3500+ running @ 1GHz, 2GB memory, gobs of disk.

Any help much appreciated.

Are the games you are trying to play supported games or unsupported games, check the wine support area if they are not you might have problems with them until they are set up.also try a program made by cedega it is a program that allows you to play windows games on linux i think it is called crossover this has a lot of supported games. the program is not free but works really well.

As an update to the earlier post go to www.codeweaver.com and take a look at crossover games and see if the games are in the database for support as well.
i like some windows games but i absolutely will not run ms windows so i run crossover for certain games ( such as rainbow six series ) they work well in wine and in crossover....
