Start it with "konqueror ~landis" or whatever your username might be. Should automatically be in filemanager mode as soon as you navigate trough local files.
It also supports drag and drop just fine, use it all the time as a ftp client to drag and drop files from and to my webhosts ftp server.

Yes there is (and this may not be the only way..). I have a shortcut/icon in
the Plasma Folder View (Desktop directory) for Konqueror that has the following as the start command on the Application tab: "kfmclient openProfile filemanagement" Hope that makes sense and helps, Cheers, Ron PS. Drag and drop works just fine for me - maybe we are not using the same methods though..? Maybe you are referring to trying to use D'n'D from the Folder list area on the left as opposed to the File-And-Folder list area on the right (the main window/tab) - if that is the case that is correct. As a potentially handy substitute may I suggest you try using the split window capabilities? I've found them to be very handy and it makes Konqueror a much better file management tool - kind of like the old split window capability of Norton Commander, only better because you can split left/right and/or top/bottom and any combo of both and each split can be pointed to a different location including ftp urls etc. landis wrote: > > is there a way, that you know of, to start konqueror 4 with the 'File > Manager' profile and not as a browser? > > it, by the way is a Crappy 'File Manager'.. > no drag n drop, the folder list is lacking Huge, again, no draging. > > oh well, 'progress'. > > LandisReed. > > |

Right click on the desktop, do Add Widgets and take a look at the
Konqueror Profiles widget. Drag it onto your panel. |

Which KDE4 are you on? Looks like 4.1.3 and it's trouble. If so, update to KDE4 4.3.3 and you will be very happy.

You need to pass a parameter to Konqueror for open the app like File Manager. I don't known now the parameter that you need to pass, but you can edit a konqueror desktop icon to see the parameter that make the konqueror one *#@# web browser ;-)
I think that 'konqueror --help' will return to you avaliables parameters I don't understand why, the peoplo don't like the Konqueror for File Manager. GOD, please, tell me. |

GOD, please, tell me. The properties for the 'home' button on my KDE 3.5 shows the following as the command: kfmclient openProfile filemanagement Might try using that.
