Question Steps to install Compiz

Hi yall,

I ve been reading the most threads I could on this days about how to install compiz without luck.

Anyone who installed it successfully can share the steps to follow it.

I have openSuSE 11.0.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

First, are you using Gnome or KDE and which version?

Ah, Gnome, I've used KDE throughout my whole linux experience. Have you tried installing it with the one click installer here?

Compiz Fusion - openSUSE

Also doesn't Gnome have compiz-fusion installed by default?

Take Care,

Ian

I think it is installed by default. Not sure if that's the case from the CD.

Maybe all you need is to do this from su terminal:
Code:
xgl-switch --enable-xgl

Question Re: Steps to install Compiz

Thanks for your sooner replies.

After installed some packages I found two new options about Compiz.

"CompizConfig" and "Desktop Effects" at Utilities section.

I can set up some options in CommpizConfig but I need to activate it.

For what I read I can activate Compiz using Desktop Effects though when I click over Desktop Effects it doesn't show up anything.

I am not sure if Desktop Effects is well installed.

Any ideas/comments/suggests will be welcome.

Thanks

I typed and this was what I got.

linux:/home/lunavf/Desktop # xgl-switch --enable-xgl

Warning! MD5DIR is not set: you probably called this script outside SuSEconfig...!
Using MD5DIR="/var/adm/SuSEconfig/md5"...
No changes for /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers
No changes for /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config

Question Re: Steps to install Compiz

Hi yall,

My Desktop Effects doesn't work yet.

I tried this

HTML Code:
linux:/home/lunavf/Desktop # compiz --replace glib gconf
compiz: Trying '/usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1'
After a few seconds my display changed. I can do some 3D Cube effects with Ctrl+Alt+Down but thats all.

I ve been playing with CompizConfig Settings Manager and no matter what option I chose it doesnt work.

I believe my Nvidia is working fine ... though GXL it doesnt work.

Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be welcome...

Thanks in advance,
