Default KDE splash screen/desktop transition effects.

Hello. I am running openSUSE 11.1, with KDE 4.1 on an Acer Aspire 5515 laptop. When I first installed openSUSE the transition from the green openSUSE splash screen displayed after the login screen was a fade to the KDE desktop. At some point this behavior stopped and I have not been able to figure out why. I have have looked to see if there was a setting specific to this behavior in Personal Settings > Advanced Tab > Login Manager and Session Manager and am unable to find a way to address this.

I have also noticed that the transition between desktops (I have four desktops active in KDE) has also changed. Originally, when you selected a particular desktop there was a transition effect which made it look as if the selected desktop were sliding over the current desktop. Now the transition is an abrupt switch to the selected desktop.

Not major issues really, but advice in how to address them would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Jesse

caf4926-

Thank you for the assistance. Configure Desktop Effects did the trick for my desktop transitions. I am still at a loss with the openSUSE splash screen fade.

The Manager for Splash Screen Themes will let me choose a splash screen image, but I am not able to modify the behavior of the screen.

Any other idea's?

Thanks again!

Hi,

That would be in Desktop Effects

Choose the login plugin.

Take Care,

ijbreakey-

I have checked under Desktop Effects, and the Login plug-in is selected. However it is described as 'Login visual effect', and not 'Smoothly fade to desktop when logging in' as your version of the plug-in does. As I remember this working at one point, it must have gotten replaced. I did have to perform a repair of the laptop some time ago, but this problem preceded that repair. Is there a way to acquire an updated version of the plug-in? I've tried doing some searches in Software Management in yast, and have added the KDE 4.1.3 repository for openSUSE 11.1 to the system, but to no avail.

After looking in the file list for the Kwin package in yast, login is part of Kwin.

So perhaps you could reinstall Kwin to see if that's the problem?

Take Care,

Ian
