Eternal Hibernate

Hi everyone,
the time for Hibernation is really too long... it takes over 5 minutes to Hibernate (almost 10), the same time to wake up... why?

P.S.: My PC is on the signature.

This is often caused by graphics hardware/driver. You have a better chance of resolving this with useful help if you can provide more info about your hardware and which desktop environment you are using. For the former do:

/usr/sbin/hwinfo --gfxcard

FWIW, I'm using openSUSE 11 with ATI chipset (fglrx proprietary driver) and KDE 4.2.4, and I experience problems with system coming back up from suspend. It seems to occur randomly, but I end up needing to do CTRL-ALT-F2 to bring up text console, then CTRL-ALT-F7 again to get desktop back. If I don't, the hard drive activity never ceases and the process never completes.

In my case, the process terminate, but in so much time... anyway, all the details about my netbook are on my signature. The output of hwinfo, however, is:

Ok, I'm no expert on power management (otherwise I'd have fixed my resume issue). However, you need to exclude a couple of potential issues first. KDE4 has a new power management system called Power Devil, (which uses a subsytem called solid, which in turn depends on HAL). The former system used powersaved (and kpowersave with KDE3). Some users with both KDE3 and KDE4 installed have had conflicts between the two systems, requiring powersaved to be disabled. The following thread discusses this:

Now, you might find that kpowersave/powersaved actually work better with your particular hardware. You may need to experiment with this.

If that did not help or apply to you, then I would also recommend upgrading to KDE4.2.4 and see if that helps because significant development and bug fixes have occurred since KDE4.1.3:

It may also be worth having a look at /var/log/pm-hibernate.log to see if there are any warnings or error messages.

See how that goes. Anyone else have some suggestions here?

I think I will upgrade KDE then: the new version, in fact, is stable; we'll see if the problems remains. Thanks for your attention.
