Default some problems with gnome 2.26.2

Greets.

I am on openSuSE 11.1 that has been updated to gnome 2.26.2 as detailed here: GNOME/2.26 - openSUSE.

Three major things have arisen from this upgrade and I have not been able to fix them.

1) gdm will no longer work for me. It errors out with "No screens found" and basically enters a loop of starting and crashing. Though xdm works fine and I am using that currently, I would really like to get gdm back up and running.

2) gpk-update This is not really doing anything wrong, it just cant update anything because it says I do not have permission to do such actions.

3) The ol not being able to shut down or reboot from gnome because of permissions once again.

Any help in solving these would be great. numbers 1 and 3 are irritating to no end :/ But I know there has to be a way to fix it.

I reinstall NVIDIA driver into my system, using startx launch gnome, probably have horizontal line at the bottom of screen, where awn toolbar site...trying to start gdm manually having few error messages about some libraries...all dependencies has applied...looks like some troubles with Xorg libraries...

Does someone knows should i try upgrade Xorg version to 7.4, is it stabble, and where i can get perositary? or only way i can do that is manually?

THX!

Hi -

I actually did this upgrade just two weeks ago and did not have the problems that you experienced. My guess is that you managed to pull updates from repositories other than the two referenced in the link. Did you set the priorities to 19? Do you have any other repositories in you list that are at 19 or lower? You might try disabling all but the most basic repositories and trying again.

For me, the upgrade pretty much replaced the entire desktop. Compiz stopped working, so I had to go back and get that again from X11-XGL. I did not have to reinstall NVIDIA, nor did my xorg.conf file change. Once I got compiz running, I had to run CompizConfig to turn everything back on.

I also had to reinstall some apps that got un-installed in the process. But overall, it was nothing like what you are describing.

My memory of the process is already going fuzzy, but I will try to answer questions based on my experience.

- John
