newbie. stating ISP and want to use linux help!!

I am starting a wireless internet service (wisp) and i was told that linux would come with most of the apps i would need in doing so. I not sure what apps to use to help set up a server, to monitor and manage my network, and billing.
I also what to setup a linux box as a firewall.
