DVD is now burning...
Your reassuring manner is about the only thing keeping me going at the moment! |

OK, DVD has burned successfully and I'm (unusually) able to run it from Windows, so what do I do now? Reinstall OpenSUSE from the DVD and see if I have better luck?

Well, I probably didn't need to install again, but I've no confidence with this stuff so I figured it would remove the chance of me having goofed something up.
The install went fine. The WUSB setup went fine (some packages were installed from DVD when I saved the configuration for WUSB). I added all details into the Network Manager. Click on the connection and I get a message back saying the network I'm trying to connect to requires authorization (which is already filled in in the Network Manager connection details). I fill the key and security details in, it pretends to do something for a bit and then asks me for the key, etc, again... To make sure I was putting all the correct details into Network Manager, I deleted the connection from this Windows machine and made a new one with the details I'm using on my suse install and it worked first time, no problems. I just can't figure this out at all! |

Make sure you are using the correct authentication method ie: WEP, WPA etc..
try changing it in the router or even disable wireless encryption to see if it is with that or something else. Different combo's etc. Process of elimination. I guess the following is correct as it works in windows: make sure if you are using access control in the router you have the MAC address of the network device. And possibly you will have to assign a LAN IP address to that access point/MAC. If all else fails - ndiswrapper

I'll give all that a try, but I think I need some sleep first! I'll get back to it later on, but for now thanks for all your help

OK, still no joy with this so here's a summary of how I have things set up (maybe someone will be able to see an obvious error), as this has to be a configuration error or something. Things I'm not sure about/problem areas are highlighted in red.

Linux deadbox 2.6.25.5-1.1-default #1 SMP 2008-06-07 01:55:22 +0200 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I haven't installed anything other than what was installed when the OS installed (I now have the openSUSE 11.0 DVD installation media). My box is set up to dual-boot openSUSE 11.0 and Windows XP Home. The WUSB works correctly from Windows. Should I go ahead and try the driver from http://at76c503a.berlios.de/support.html (I haven't done this as I thought it was the driver that's already installed) or the drivers from the WUSB installation disc with Ndiswrapper? P.S. Happy Thanks Giving to all those celebrating! Don't celebrate too much - I still need your help!

OK - I'll see if I can figure out how to do that...
Just a thought... If the WUSB has been in use via Windows and is registered as a DHCP client with a lease of a certain time, would using the same WUSB via openSUSE use the same MAC Address and then cause some kind of conflict as that MAC Address still has a lease? Hopefully you know what I'm trying to get at here! I'm not sure if this sort of thing causes problems but it just occurred to me so I thought I'd throw it out there... Anyway, off to try and figure out how to add a MAC Address to my router... EDIT: From looking at my router's config pages I can see the MAC Address above is already listed as a DHCP client... |
