I have very little experience of WLAN so I'll let the experts take over. I know it's kind of hard to get bootstrapped when the network interface isn't up, but don't lose heart, I'm sure you can win the battle.
Maybe you might want to consider getting the wired Ethernet interface running with your broadband router so that you can enjoy some of the benefits of using Linux online to spur you on. Is that possible or is there too much distance to run a cable? |

I don't have enough cable to run from my machine to the router
I wish we didn't have to use wireless as it doesn't seem to be the same quality as wired at all. Still, I'm just trying to make do with what we have for the time being.I don't like having to pester forums online with questions they probably get all the time, but when I've followed all instruction to the letter and am still not getting the result I need I don't really know where else to turn. This seems like it should all be working now and I can't figure out why I can't connect I read over Connecting to a wireless network - openSUSE and have everything set up the way that suggests thanks to caf4926's help...

I am using the right driver, right? I downloaded http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...1-1.1.i586.rpm

It's not that I was too hasty with YaST... YaST was complaining that it couldn't connect to the online repos. How could it when I can't connect to the internet?
I did look for some hints about what it was trying to install, however the 'details' view only gives me urls for the repos. I will look into the dependency check... |

OK, I rebooted and now in YaST Network Settings I have:
WUSB11 V2.6 802.11b Adapter (Not connected) BusID: 1-2:1.0 WUSB11 V2.6 802.11b Adapter (No hwinfo) Device name: wlan0 Started automatically at boot IP address assigned using DHCP Ethernet Network Card (Not connected) The red stuff is new and I did nothing but reboot. |

is an image to show YaST failing to connect online.

This error in Yast is because you still have online repo's enabled but no active internet connection. You must have only the dvd enabled

OK.
But even that should have an entry in the repo list (and I thought you were putting an .iso of the dvd to the repo) give us the result of this zypper lr
