Now can somebody please, also, answer the first question.
"Will the milestone 3 automatically get updated to 11.2?" I assume? I'll try...

1st, we have only been using "Milestones" for a very short period. Also, in the past, "update" with "alpha's (which could be command line) and beta's" usually only included "test/debug" packages. There we moved from alpha to beta to rc1 (release candidate one). And yes, one could install Alpha1 and use a software manager stay up with the distro releases to GM. But, it was not recommended. Why? Mainly config files -- say like the video driver kernel module being written over 5 or 6 times could lead to issues. Many of us alpha/beta players found that a clean install of RC1 and then update to GM was the way to go (fewer issues); but a clean install of GM is recommended for a production system.

Now the roadmap includes 8 milestones and 2 release candidates before GM. Now the 11.2 update again only includes "test" packages: Index of /update/11.2/rpm/noarch

One stays abreast of daily changes by adding "Factory" oss yast-sources: Index of /factory/repo/oss ( and doing something like "zypper ref and zypper dup") I will promise you something is going to break sooner or later. Be prepared to do a clean install and start over if you are not an expert at finding and resolving problems.

I recommend having a production install and keeping that "pristine"; then have a separate install on its own partition for the pre-release distro and do all your experimenting there.

Me? I have a SLED11 install, openSuSE 11.1 install that I keep on the leading edge using the "stable" repos and an openSUSE 11.2 install that I keep on the bleeding edge & do factory dups most every day -- it breaks often BTW.
I will do a clean install (desktop & laptop) when 11.2RC1 comes along and update that to GM. Eventually, I will buy the boxed version (to help out Novell/SuSE) and do a clean production install.

Now then, your answer is yes, but, I don't recommend it.

Hope that helps...
Jim
