What do you need the domain environment for? Depending on what you do it
may not be needed at all. For example, if you need an LDAP datastore
OpenLDAP comes with OpenSUSE. If you need a server that supports SMB for
file sharing but only have one server the Samba can probably do what you
need without a domain at all. If you need a Kerberos backend for
kerberized applications then Kerberos is also available in Linux by
default. What you work with will likely depend on what you really need to
do (the "business cases" behind your technology).
