Try first with firefox edit / preferences / programs

That sounds weird. It should follow the settings defined under edit /
preferences / general tab or edit / preferences / programs.

If they don't work, try with a fresh-new ".mozilla" profile. Maybe something
within your firefox user's profile is messed up.
