Some of you might not have been around long enough to remember but part of the reason Qt is now unemcumbered (for open source software at least) is that FSF promoted Gnome to get around the Qt problem. Eventually Trolltech released Qt under suitable open terms. But not before the Linux desktop world split into two major camps.

As for Tomboy, it seems there is a suitable replacement in Gnote. Besides I dislike the idea of loading a whole C# runtime just to support one app. So personally I would banish Tomboy on this technical argument anyway. Not that I have a use for Gnote at the moment anyway.
