You mean the gnome main menu application (AKA the SLAB menu)
I never liked that thing, always thought that it was lackluster.
What I do for Opensuse is set up Gnome like it is on other distros, having the menubar and such.
lets see if removing the gnome main menu works, right click the "computer menue" as you call it and select "remove from panel"
Then replace it with either the "menubar" or "main menu"
But dont get the two confused, the gnome main menu and "main menu" are entirely different things, one way to tell the difference is the computer icon.
To add different things to your panel right click your panel and select "add to panel"
