Can surf the net but cant ping other boxes local subnet
Not sure exactly what information to post here but I have found this same issue on several different PCs....
I can surf the internet no problems on all PCs.
Scenario 1.
PC1 is my work PC hooked into the LAN here. The Windows XP boxes can ping each other no problems. My windows XP box cannot ping my SUSE box and my SUSE box cant ping my XP box.
PCs access internet via a proxy server located at another site.
Scenario 2.
PC2 is at home. PCs access internet via a wireless router (My SUSE box is connected to it via a cable but all other PCs are wireless) which in turn plugs into an ADSL modem.
Again - all the other PCs can ping each other but not the SUSE box (doesn't matter if they connect via a cable or wireless - same result.
----------------------------------------------------------
In both locations if I install Ubuntu or Fedora (remove SUSE and do a clean install) the machine works fine. Got net, can ping etc etc.
I have just done a clean install of OpenSUSE 11.1
I removed the tick from "auto configure" during the setup and configured my network settings when prompted.
Last time I turned off ipv6 and suddenly I can ping local subnet but cannot access the internet.
I havent tried that this time as I would rather have net access than local access for now (however I need both)
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Jay
