Just as added note - and wondering myself, does KDE 4.x not use compiz by default (for the KDE effects) with the openSUSE 11.x series?
There was an interesting post in the openSUSE newsletter (week 52) about compiz on openSUSE 11.1 GM.
It's suggested that it's better to upgrade the compiz packages from the X11 repo and reconfigure compiz/your effects.

I've upgraded and cleared out the existing compiz config.. after that my X seems more stable. Had a couple of random X freezes that seem to have been fixed now.
Anyway.. could be rambling (as usual)
