Desktop effects work but when I play a video at youtube the sound and video "stutters" and is not usable. The video is delayed a long time before it begins to jump around and the audio is nothing but repeated screeches that temporarily survive the closing of the window. In one thread, it was suggested there was a connection with the video problem and desktop effects. Sure enough, if I turn off desktop effects and restart Firefox, the problem goes away.
Is there anyway youtube and desktop effects can live in harmony?

are you using gnome or kde? if kde which version?
have you tried disabling desktop effects one by one? if you use compiz you can start compizConfig by typing ccsm in a terminal.
