Could be you are looking at this issue, the thread is about changes to the xorg drivers affecting Intel chipsets:

Look at comment 17 and 23, could be reverting to the xorg driver solves issues for NVidia too? Again, the parameters in the post are for Intel video cards.. don't know how they will affect other cards.
