I'll try your suggestion shortly.
But first, here is the content of my system log. At about 18:00 hours, the system worked well. An hour or so later, after installing updates, the system turned spastic.
Note the last entry.
Interestingly, the opensuse form window in which I am typing, works fast and normally, unlike the parent Firefox window.
