on F9 I received an updated version the other day but I do not see much of a difference.

I do not know what doesn't look good for you but for me they appear great, quite on par with M$ fonts and antialiased as well.
but to each his own. on Arch i even get the ubuntu freetype patches to make my fonts look as good as unbuntu's.
