I could go around the problem and it works now.

I reinstalled OpenSuse 10.3 with 800x600 Screen and VESA Mode (F3 before install) and then changed the resolution to 1024x768 60 Hertz.

No idea why I couldn't change to 60 Hertz before but with this work-a-round is ok for me.
