To try and get a better indication as to your specific configuration, could you then download and run the following script on both your openSUSE:
http://bulletproof.servebeer.com/als...s/alsa-info.sh
Note - to run this script just open a konsole and type "bash alsa-info.sh".
This is a script that wishie (a sound "guru" on IRC #alsa) wrote, to gather ALSA information from the machine its run on. When run, it
will post the output on pastebin.ca automatically and give you the URL where its posted.
Here is an example..

Then if you post the URL here, our forum sound guru's can take a look at it.
You could also try going to the IRC #alsa (from freenode) sound channel and see if you can get help there.
