If it's any help I bought a Thinkpad R60e less than a year ago and it's honestly the best laptop I have owned.

Works pretty much out of the box with SuSE. Has the timeless Thinkpad design (it has grown on me) and a fantastic keyboard.

I have my eye on the X61t but I need to find out first if my sausage like fingers will manage the keyboard or not for long periods
