Have you enabled the VideoLan Repository? If so, you'll need to install at least two additional files: libdvdcss and w32codec-all.
Good luck.

I had everything listed by you(and in other threads) except for the VideoLan Repository and libdvdcss. I couldn't find libdvdcss anywhere, and I didn't know the URL off hand.
While I was testing a CD to see if it was causing an error in reading, I noticed that my DVD's name to the system is hda.
MPlayer thought it's name was scd1, so when I went to preferences and replaced "scd1" with hda, I had playback on my DVD's.
The only that doesn't work is menus, but who cares, because it's a breeze to navigate through the chapters.
Thanks very much for your response, and thanks very much to the owners of this fine forum.
