Hello all,
First, I'm not a complete linux noob, but I only have a little experience and understanding of the system. I've successfully installed Ubuntu (edgy, feisty and gutsy) on an intel macbook pro (triple boot OS X, XP and Edgy) and two dell laptops (single boot).
I also have a 17" Imac G5 without Isight (one of the first models with PPC architecture), but since upgrading to OS X Leopard the system keeps crashing on me. For that I wanted to try Linux and see how that works. I've been able to install several distro's (Fedora 8, Yellow Dog 6.0 and recently OpenSuse 10.3) Fedora and OpenSuse both work fine, but I keep stumbling on the same annoyances, namely some minor graphical issues and no WiFi connection. I've tried a lot of things in Fedora to get the Wifi working without succes, so installed OpenSuse 10.3 hoping to have more succes, but I still don't get it to work. I hope someone in here can help me out with this issue.
As I said before the machine is a 17" Imac G5 without Isight with only OpenSuse 10.3 installed. The Wifi network card is an apple airport extreme card with a broadcom chipset: BCM4306.
I've installed the bcm43xx driver that was included in the distro and then followed this guide (http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Broadcom_(BCM4306)_WLAN_Installation_under_SUS E, option 1 - Original Driver Procedure) which is the last version of the thread mentioned above. It seems to go fine until I type "modprobe bcm43xx" and get the error which is also mentioned above: "FATAL: Module bcm43xx not found"
Any ideas? Please let me know which additional information you need and I will post it asap.
With kind regards and thanks a lot allready.
PS: I understood that the ndiswrapper procedure is not on option for PPC, it works only on intel architectures. Is that correct?
PPS: I've also learned that the bcm43xx driver is deprecated and that I should use b43 or b43legacy. I've tried this guide:
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Dr...devicefirmware
However, I get several errors in that procedure and I don't even know which driver to use (b43 legacy I guess?). I will post the errors when I'm back home.
