I am having this same problem on 10.3. I installed Gnome and use Ksmarttray as my auto updater, but I can't find out what to do/how to do it in KDE.
The article I followed is here:
Smart Package Manager from susewiki
but it doesn't say how to add the ksmarttray on startup and remove the openSUSE updater.
Any ideas?

does anyone have any ideas why smart, and ksmartray when installed in gnome, doesn't notify me of updates on my system? I have to manually load smart, and perform an update to see if there are any updates.
I can't be the only one having this problem.
