Then it runs un-godly slow (it takes like 2 minutes for it to respond to a mouse movement). I can get to the disk partitioner, but that runs even slower!
So, I'm just looking for a way to speed it up so I can try SuSE! Is there a text installer option (as opposed to a graphic one)?

Yes. Use "Installation - Safe Settings" and it should give you the text mode. Otherwise, pass the parameter "textmode=1" to the bootloader.
