All I can say is I don't know how to fix it. That doesn't mean it can't be fixed, it just means that I lack the knowledge to help you.

There is one more thing I can think of to try. Boot from the 9.1 cd/dvd and try a repair. From the first screen, choose installation, then language, then repair installed system. Maybe that will fix things. Be sure to post back here how it went so others may learn.
