Hello all,
I have an issue that has me quite confused.
I am enrolled in online university courses and the school uses an
application called WebTycho to present its courses online. One of the
requirements for using the application is JavaScript 1.5.
If you go to the website (
http://tychousa.umuc.edu) you will see a link
button at the bottom called "Check your browser" which verifies your
browser/system and tells you if anything does not meet the requirements.
The problem is this:
If I install Firefox as provided by SuSE Linux and run this browser test I
am told that I am using JavaScript 1.4. Unfortunately, this disqualifies
me from using the application.
To solve this problem I downloaded Firefox from the Mozilla site and sure
enough, when I run the browser check it shows that I have JavaScript 1.5,
and all is well in the world.
Since the standalone version of Firefox shows JavaScript 1.5 I am assuming
that it does not rely on the SuSE OS to provide it, rather it comes
bundled in Firefox.
My question is this: why does SuSE use JavaScript 1.4 in its version of
Firefox, and is there any way to change this behavior?
Thanks in advance,
Dave
